COVID-19 Response and Strategy

March 13th, 2020

Support Your BJJ Community

I know many of us are shaken by the Ontario Public School announcement about closing school’s for 2 weeks after the March Break.  It is important to remember that this was done to mitigate the risk of those travelling over the March Break and bringing the virus back with them.  It is important that our community stick together and remains calm and rational. We will continue to work on strategies to keep BJJ a part of everyone’s life through this pandemic. We are asking that our members do not panic and  Please think about the impact on the gym if everyone panics and memberships are placed on hold.  There may not be a gym to return to.

We are committed to the safety and well-being of all our members & team, we wanted to address the recently confirmed cases of the COVID-19 Coronavirus in the region.  We are strictly following the guidance and recommendations set out by the Halton Region Public Health Dept and other local authorities as we recognize the seriousness of the situation. We are committed to doing everything we can to ensure the safety of our members as we continue to navigate the unfolding events.

At this time, MN Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy will remain open and operating as Dr Hamidah Meghani, Medical Officer of Health for Halton Region has indicated today the risk to the community is low. We have taken various preventive measures help prevent the spread of the virus. We pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our gym and it has always been one of our #1 priorities.  We are disinfecting the mats 3 times per day and more as needed along with our fitness equipment and the rest of the gym.

We can all do our part to help keep our gym safe:

  • Be Smart: Stay informed, be aware of risks, but don’t panic.  Use the discipline you learned in Jiu Jitsu to create enhanced personal hygiene routines in your life.  Wash your hands frequently, wash your uniform, and take a shower after practice, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Training Hygiene: To protect yourself  and your training partners, make sure to sanitize your hands when entering the gym, before shaking anyone’s hands or touching anything.  This will be implemented gym wide, including instructors.  Put on your uniform after you have entered the gym premises.
  • Stay Healthy: This is a crucial time to make your health a priority and do all you can to boost your immunity.  This means eat well, sleep well.
  • Be A Good Teammate: If you are feeling under the weather, if you are coughing or sneezing, if you have a mild fever, headache, or any other cold/flu symptoms, take a break from Jiu-Jitsu.  Stay home, rest and eat well.  Keep your finger and toe nails clipped and do not train if you have open wounds.
  • Travelling: If you have been in touch or have travelled from areas affected by the Coronavirus, avoid coming to the gym for 14 days.  Observe any cold/flu like symptoms.

Once again please support the gym and our BJJ community. We will work together to get through this.
